Voice Memo Content Strategy: How to Create 7 Instagram Posts in 15 Minutes
The blank screen problem is solved by one thing: your voice. You already know what to say. You just don’t know how to get it out of your head and onto the page. Voice memos bypass the block entirely. Here’s how to use them to create a week of content in the time it takes to have a coffee. (See: content strategy for consultants.)
Why Voice Beats Typing
You speak 3x faster than you type. But the speed isn’t the main reason. The main reason is personality.
Your natural speech has rhythm, texture, and authenticity that writing rarely captures, especially when you’re writing for social media. When you write, you self-edit as you go. You second-guess the sentence, you soften the opinion, you lose the energy that made the idea worth sharing in the first place. When you talk, you just talk. The raw version is usually better.
AI can polish your words. It can’t add your voice. The unique perspective, the specific story, the strong opinion. That has to come from you. Voice memos capture it without friction.
The 15-Minute Voice Memo Process
- Open your phone’s voice memo app, the native one is fine.
- Pick one topic: a recent win, a lesson you learned this week, a client story, a strong opinion you hold about your niche.
- Talk for 10–15 minutes like you’re explaining it to a friend at a networking event, someone who’s smart and interested but doesn’t know your field as well as you do.
- Don’t edit yourself. Don’t stop and restart. Don’t explain why you’re saying what you’re saying. Just talk.
- Upload to Google Drive or AirDrop to your laptop.
That’s the whole process. The 15 minutes includes topic selection and the recording. The processing, which is where the real content creation happens, takes another 10–15 minutes and can be batched.
Transcribing With AI
Upload your voice memo to a transcription tool. Otter.ai, Whisper, or the built-in transcription in Google or Apple, to get the raw text. Then paste the transcript into ChatGPT with this prompt:
“Here’s a raw voice memo transcript. Extract the 5 most compelling moments, specific results, strong opinions, surprising insights, stories. Format each as a standalone Instagram post with a strong hook in the first line.”
Review the output. Edit where your voice got lost in the polishing. Add back anything specific, the number, the name, the detail. That makes it real rather than generic. What comes out the other side is content that sounds like you, moves fast, and says something worth reading.
What Makes a Good Voice Memo Topic
Not all topics produce equally good content. The ones that work best:
- A specific client result with numbers. “I helped [client] go from [X] to [Y] in [timeframe]” is 10x more compelling than a general statement about what’s possible.
- A mistake you made and what you learned. Vulnerability plus lesson equals engagement. People learn from your failures more than your successes.
- A strong opinion you hold in your niche. The takes that get the most traction are the ones that would make some people disagree. If everyone agrees with you, you’re not saying anything.
- A question someone asked you recently that you know the answer to well. If you’ve answered it once out loud, you can answer it again. And if someone asked it, others want to know the answer.
The One Memo = One Week Rule
One 15-minute voice memo reliably produces 5–7 standalone Instagram posts. The system runs on a simple schedule: record one memo per week, batch-process on Tuesday morning, post one piece of content daily through the week.
That’s 52 weeks of consistent content from 52 voice memos, roughly 13 hours of recording total. For most photographers, that’s the entire year of Instagram solved. No more blank screen on Monday morning wondering what to post.
Sending to Your Editor
If you work with a video editor, or want to, the voice memo process doubles as a video script. After you’ve done the voice memo, record yourself saying the same content out loud on camera. Don’t script it, just talk naturally, the way you did in the memo. Send the recording and the transcript to your editor as raw footage.
The transcript becomes the caption and the script. The recording becomes the video. One topic, 15 minutes of your time, produces written content and video content simultaneously.
Why This Never Runs Out
You live your work every day. Every shoot has a moment worth sharing. Every client call surfaces a question worth answering. Every win is a data point, every mistake is a lesson. The content is already happening, the system just captures what’s already there.
The photographers who struggle with content aren’t lacking material. They’re lacking a capture system. Voice memos are the simplest, fastest capture system that exists. Open the app, press record, talk. The content creates itself.
