Instagram Growth Checklist: 30 Things to Do Before You Post Again

Instagram Growth Checklist: 30 Things to Fix Before You Post One More Time

Most people keep posting more without fixing the foundation. This checklist covers everything that needs to be right BEFORE content will work. (See: content calendar for Instagram. (See: Instagram Reels strategy.)) Go through every item. If you can’t check it off, fix it today, not after your next post.

Profile (Do These First)

  1. Profile photo is clear, well-lit, face visible
  2. Name field includes a searchable keyword (not just your name)
  3. Bio line 1 = result you deliver, not your job title
  4. Bio line 2 = credibility (clients, countries, years, results)
  5. Bio line 3 = one CTA with a link
  6. Link goes to ONE thing (booking page, free resource, or courses)
  7. Highlights are named, filled, and relevant (Results, About, Free Stuff)
  8. Grid shows work you want more of (delete anything that doesn’t)

Content Strategy

  1. You know exactly who your ideal client is (specific, not “everyone”)
  2. Every post is either: results, process, education, or personality
  3. You post at least once per day
  4. Your hooks are under 10 words and create curiosity
  5. You never start a caption with “I” lead with them or the result
  6. You use real numbers (not “many” or “a lot”)
  7. Each post makes ONE point, not five
  8. You document your work (phone out during shoots, calls, travels)
  9. You have a keyword DM trigger set up (Comment X → auto-DM)
  10. Your CTA is clear on every post

Growth Mechanics

  1. You reply to every comment within 24 hours
  2. You reply to every DM within 24 hours
  3. You engage on 10+ posts per day in your niche (before and after posting)
  4. You collaborate with complementary accounts monthly
  5. You repurpose your best-performing posts (repost after 30 days)
  6. You track which content gets the most DMs (not just likes)

Conversion (The Bit Everyone Misses)

  1. Every piece of content points toward one action
  2. You have a free resource that builds your email list
  3. You follow up every DM lead within 24 hours
  4. Your booking page loads fast and is mobile-friendly
  5. You have social proof visible on your profile (testimonials in highlights)
  6. You book at least one strategy call per week from Instagram

Quick Fix vs Long Game

Quick fixes (do today): name field keyword, bio rewrite, link update, add DM trigger

Long game (30–90 days): consistent posting, DM follow-up system, email list building

The quick fixes take under an hour. The long game is what separates accounts that stall at 5k from accounts that hit 50k. Both matter, but start with the quick fixes today so the long game has a solid base to build on.

What to Do After This Checklist

The checklist tells you what’s broken. The course tells you exactly how to fix each one, with templates, scripts, and the full system behind each item.

If you want to go deeper on content strategy, read Instagram content strategy for photographers and how to grow Instagram followers fast. Both cover the tactics behind items 9–24 on this checklist in much more detail.
