You post 3-5 times a week. You get likes. People save your posts. Some even comment “so helpful!” But your DMs are empty and nobody’s booking calls.
This is the most common problem I see with coaches, consultants, and experts who create content. They’re doing everything “right” and getting nothing from it.
The fix is simpler than you think.
You’re Creating Content for Followers, Not Buyers
There’s a fundamental difference between content that grows your audience and content that grows your business. Most people only create the first kind.
Follower content teaches. “5 ways to improve X.” “3 tips for better Y.” “Here’s how to do Z.” Your audience reads it, learns something, and moves on. They got what they needed for free.
Buyer content proves. “I did X. Here’s what happened.” “A client came to me with this problem. 6 weeks later, they were fully booked.” “This is the system that got me 150+ sales calls from one post.”
See the difference? Teaching content positions you as a resource. Proof content positions you as the solution.
The Teaching Trap
I call it the teaching trap because it feels productive. You’re sharing knowledge. People are engaging. Your follower count might even grow. But none of it converts to revenue.
A business coach I worked with was posting 5 times a week. Good graphics. Thoughtful captions. Consistent schedule. Zero leads from any of it.
Every post was a tip. “3 ways to set better boundaries at work.” “How to negotiate your salary.” “5 leadership mistakes to avoid.”
Her audience was learning from her for free. They had no reason to pay.
The Fix: Three Changes
We changed three things about her content. Same posting frequency. Same niche. Same audience.
Change 1: Rewrote her bio around one specific result. Instead of listing 5 services, she focused on one outcome: “I help mid-career professionals land leadership roles in 90 days.” Now every visitor knew exactly what she does and who it’s for.
Change 2: Switched from tip posts to result posts. Instead of “how to set boundaries,” she posted: “A client came to me overwhelmed and undervalued. We restructured how she communicated with her team. She got promoted 8 weeks later.” Same topic. Completely different framing.
Change 3: Added a clear next step to every post. Not “follow for more.” Not “like if you agree.” One specific call to action: “If you’re in this situation, I have 3 spots open for a free strategy call this week. DM me ‘ready.’”
The Results
6 weeks after making these changes: 23 discovery calls booked, 8 new clients signed, fully booked for Q2. She didn’t post more. She posted differently.
This is the pattern I see with almost every expert I work with. The knowledge is there. The positioning is off. They have years of experience sitting in their head that could be working for them through content. But the content strategy is wrong.
The Content-to-Client Framework
Every post should pass this test: does it make someone think “I want that result too” or does it make them think “thanks for the tip”?
If it’s the second one, rewrite it. Lead with the outcome. Show the transformation. End with one clear way to work with you.
I’ve helped business owners make this switch. The ones who commit to it see results within the first two weeks. Not because the algorithm changed. Because the message changed.
